North south amiga game

Running through the map is a railway line with four stations. Dotted around the map at the start of the game are two Confederate armies and two Union armies. The idea of the game, like 'Risk' is to capture al the states on the map, or alternatively kill all the enemy soldiers on the map. The game works in turns. At the start of a turn, all your occupied spaces flash.

You can move all the troops in each occupied state, one space in any direction. If you try to move into occupied territory, you then have to do battle with the enemy. As you move around occupying land, there are one or two things you must remember to do. Firstly, if you capture all the states between two stations on the railway line, the train will come along, carrying gold from station to station. With that gold you can buy new armies to replace all the old tired ones.

Also, there are one or two special locations op the map. When your opponent gets the train rolling, look where the train stops. That is his fortress. Raid it for lots of money. The state in the top left-hand corner is Indian country. Hang around there too long and those Injuns get annoyed and throw a hatchet in your direction. On the right-hand screen, about halfway up, is a boarding point. Every two turns, a boat rolls up the river and drops an army off at that point.

There is more than one way of playing North and South. On the surface you can play it as either a straight strategy game or an arcade game with strategy elements. The strategy game is just a very simple game of Risk. All battles are decided by who has the largest army and all other events are determined by the computer.

When you move into a state occupied by the opposite side or vice versa, a battle occurs, and the game zooms into the action. This is undoubtedly the best part of the game. You will be looking down across either a canyon or a field, seeing your units artillery, cavalry and infantry shown as little groups.

Fighting is a simple matter of choosing which unit to move where, and watching your battle represented with amusing, well-animated soldiers. When you see your cavalry charge over the bridges, you can't help but feel the excitement.

And it doesn't stop there. The game is full of many fun mini-arcade games, such as when you try to break up the opposition's railway line by taking over a state between two towns.

To do that, you will sprint along the top of a train, trying to get the driver's seat to stop it this bears an uncanny similarity to one level in Back to The Future III. When you try to wrest control of a town from the enemy, you will infiltrate the enemy fort in side-scrolling platformer fashion, throwing knives and punches at enemy soldiers on your way to raising your standard on their flagpole.

Two thumbs up! Screenshots from MobyGames. Johnny-boy 0 point. This game is lot of fun! Recommended game for time killing! I have the original and still do PC CD game having had it on floppy before this.

Hoping to play this with my offspring soon as this game is a right laugh. Why are there no games like this now?! Battles that are funny and not so boring and realistic! Plus it wasn't set in WW2!

Leave it alone already! Good game View all comments Thousands of comical sounds and graphics, just great. Also very diversified gameplay. Great game! The strategy mode is rather simplistic and should have had more depth and less randomness, but all the minigames made up for it - not to mention the battles, which have an enormous amount of variation, considering the few option you actually have. A classic.

Do you remember all those funny sound fx, LOL! And those national anthems at the beginning of the game. This game's pure fun! One of the best on the miggy! I remember having a dream where I died and went to heaven. You're pretty damn hooked to a game then. You could start playing and never know when to finish.

The artillery is a bit powerful I remember it very well, lots o' fun! But you have to play with someone to get the real thing Too bad the cannons had such a longe range, spoils the fun when you play with someone that exploits that View all comments At it's best in two-player, but still good fun against the computer. The random events are what make the game great: The ships that deliver reinforcements, the minigames to ambush a supply train, or when the indians kill your men.

I can still hear that tomohawk now This was frustrating because I was always way better with the joystick. Fun game though. View all comments 3. We always do an in-between game of North and South whenever we are playing our Kick Off 2 matches. The battles are always a great laugh. So funny! And there also some strategy involved, but who cares really? You just want to get into the fights with big armies with 3 cannons so you can blast those foot soldiers and cavalry into tiny little bits.

It was released for PS1 and PC. Demo available here: [ www ] I actually liked it Little Monkey Lost We need a new game based on this same idea. A game that would have more of different units. There is some freeware effort but it is not very good. Callet's title music sounds very good. Something took over when you were down to your last cavalry or infantry troop, similar to going ballistic in Doom. You'd duck and weave, charge until the enemy's cannon was wheeled back, and somehow, against ludicrous odds claim the battle, and the day.

Sure it has sod all depth, but those of you who complain about the high score are missing the point I reckon. This game was sheer fun, particularly with a friend. Great graphics, great sound, great fun. A bit boring in single player mode, but days and weeks of fun when you play it with or better: against a friend! It can get a bit repetitive at times, but you can get many hours of fun from it.

A great game although playing against the computer was almost impossible. One of the best things were in the main meny where you could poke the photographer in the ass and he would make a hilarious sound!!

Good GFX and animation, fun sound and simple gameplay work very well. I used to play it with a friend and it was Hylarious I'll never forget when I used the cavalry to commit suicide against the cannons Classic, classic, classic!!! With two players it was pure bliss. And the battles were, yes, legendary. I can also remember those unforgettable moments when you won the battle with only one puny soldier left.

Oh, how much fun it was wreaking havoc with your cavalry. Or cannon! Oh yes! There's something about French games. They have this certain extra charm to them. You can play it many times over, and still get enjoyment from it.
