Radiologic technologists are key players in the healthcare field and make up a good portion of its workforce. Our accredited Radiologic Technology program is an intensive, rigorous course of study with hands-on clinical experiences. Our experienced instructors will educate you in areas of anatomy, physiology, math, physics, patient positioning, examination techniques, equipment protocols, radiation safety, and radiation protection.

You will also get real-world exposure and experience in administering patient care. Upon successful completion, you will be eligible to apply for admission to the certification exam administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists ARRT.

Students at any Maricopa Community College may need to complete courses at more than one of our colleges. GateWay Community College is known in the community for its healthcare education and training excellence and is the only college in the Maricopa Community College to offer the Radiologic Technology program. Radiologic Technology, otherwise known as X-ray Technology, involves using sophisticated imaging equipment to photograph parts of the human body.

The Radiologic Technology program will provide access to educational activities that prepare graduates for employment as competent, entry-level radiologic technologists in the healthcare workforce.

Polynomial functions and expressions with special attention to linear, quadratic, exponential, rational, and radical functions are studied.

There is an emphasis on modeling and applications for all topics. A graphing calculator is required for this course. Updated November Students will be able to communicate and assess patients, evaluate and record patient history, and learn to correctly document.

Students will also be able to differentiate between immobilization and restraints, recognize special needs of patients, and respect cultural and human diversity. Course content will also include: vital signs, medical emergencies, oxygen safety, patient consent, and ethical and legal issues in healthcare. Students will perform research and prepare a poster or presentation on an approved topic chosen from the course objectives. Students will refine patient care and positioning skills.

Updated Fall Includes the study of radioisotopes, the production of x-rays, imaging measurements of radiation and a basic understanding of the ways in which radiation interacts with the biological system. Emphasis is also placed on the various methods of protection for both technologists and patients.

Once prerequisites are met and applications are submitted, students will participate in a clinical shadow and an interview scheduled by the program coordinator.

Final acceptance is pending successful completion of clinical requirements. This will include criminal background checks with fingerprinting, immunization documentation including hepatitis B vaccine, annual flu shots and TB testing, proof of insurance coverage, and physical exam.
